What Data are Available in DAAR?

DAAR includes data from the US Census and the religion censuses from 1890 to 2010. However, based on changes in data collection methodologies over time and changes in denominations, there are several gaps in the data. The Data Availability Matrix provides a listing of the data included in DAAR for you to easily see where there are data gaps and availability.

  • US Census variables on population and socioeconomic status available for which years
  • Religion census data on adherents, members, and congregations by religion family and year
  • Religion census data on adherents, members, and congregations by denomination and year
  • Religion characteristics calculated by adherents, members, and congregations by year
  • The religion classification scheme showing how denominations are groups into families and then into religions.
